Why I Built Nekst: Fixing the Broken Parts of Transaction Management

I didn’t start out trying to build software. I just got tired of wasting time fixing the same problems in every deal.
I tried everything. Top Producer, Brivity, Trello, Cartavi (which later became Transaction Rooms), and a dozen others I’ve probably blocked from memory. Every tool promised to simplify things. None of them actually did.
At some point, I figured... how hard could it be to build it myself?
Turns out, pretty hard. But completely worth it.
Nekst wasn’t born out of a product roadmap. It was built from real problems I faced while running a high-volume real estate operation. Here’s what drove me crazy, and how I solved it with a real estate transaction management software built for the way agents actually work.
Problem 1: Tasks Only Triggered From the Start Date
Most platforms force you to build your workflow around a single trigger date. That works for some deadlines, but what about tasks that depend on the closing date?
How I Fixed It:
Nekst lets you trigger tasks from the start date, closing date, or any major milestone. You can mix and match triggers to match your actual process, not someone else’s template.
Problem 2: Tasks Required Hard-Coded Calendar Dates
I used to read the contract, then literally count out "7 days after execution" or "3 days before closing" on my fingers. And I had to do that for every single transaction.
How I Fixed It:
With Nekst, you can build tasks using real contract language. Just type "3 days after inspection" or "2 business days before close" and the system handles the rest. That’s real estate task automation software that actually understands how real deadlines work.
Problem 3: Tasks Piled Up When I Was Waiting on Something
Most systems just keep firing off tasks whether you’re ready or not. Delays happen, but the task list doesn’t care. Before you know it, you’ve got 15 overdue tasks you couldn’t have completed anyway.
How I Fixed It:
Nekst uses dependent tasks, so one step won’t trigger until the one before it is complete. That way your list stays clean and accurate, even when a deal slows down.
Problem 4: Clients Had No Transparency Into the Process
I was always fielding the same questions. What’s next? Are we still on track? Did the appraisal come back?
How I Fixed It:
Every Nekst transaction includes a client-facing portal with real-time status updates, documents, contact info, and deadlines. I stay in control, and my clients stop guessing.
Problem 5: Everything Required a Desktop Computer
You could be managing a deal from your car, a showing, or the parking lot outside Starbucks. But most systems forced you to wait until you were back at your desk.
How I Fixed It:
I built a full mobile app from day one. You can update tasks, check timelines, send reminders, and manage your workflow from anywhere.
Problem 6: No Way to Adjust for Business Days or Holidays
Most platforms didn’t know or care that banks and title companies are closed on federal holidays. If a task fell on a Sunday or Labor Day, that was your problem to fix.
How I Fixed It:
Nekst lets you schedule tasks based on business days and automatically adjusts for all federal holidays. Less cleanup, fewer surprises.
Problem 7: I Had to Create a Task Called “Send an Email”
Most systems required a manual email for every update. I’d build a task to remind myself to send one, then still have to write it, format it, and hit send.
How I Fixed It:
I built email tasks into Nekst. You can pre-write templated messages using SmartTags and either send them automatically or with one click. It’s real estate workflow automation systems that actually do the work.
Problem 8: Setting Up a Transaction Took Forever
This one is new. And it’s one most platforms still haven’t solved. Entering contract info, deadlines, parties, and documents takes time you don’t have.
How I Fixed It:
Nekst uses AI to scan the purchase contract and pull out all the key info. It builds the transaction, adjusts the timeline, adds the contacts, and sets you up in under 90 seconds.
Final Thoughts
I didn’t build Nekst because I love tech. I built it because the tools I needed didn’t exist.
Every feature came from the real-world chaos of running a high-volume real estate business. And I’m still building. Still listening. Still fixing the parts of your business that slow you down.
Try Nekst free and see what happens when your systems finally work the way you do.
